Prayer to Start Your Ministry

Beloved, is God calling you to start your ministry? If so, have you been waiting and waiting to do it?

Maybe you don’t even know what you’ve been waiting for, or why you’ve been waiting. Maybe you’ve been scared, or just not attentive to your call. But regardless of the reason, if you’re so hungry for the Lord and for ALL He has for you that you are ready to start your ministry, the sample prayer to start your ministry below will help you.

So with no further ado …

Are you ready for God to move in your heart and help you as you start your ministry?

Then pray this with me:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ name.

Father God, thank You for Your call on my life. Thank You for the good plans You have for me–plans to prosper me, and not to harm me; plans to give me hope and a future. I praise You, for You are kind and good to me. Thank You for Your love and watchcare over me.

Abba Father, in Jesus’ name, I am asking for Your help right now.

Father, I need to start my ministry. I want to start my ministry. I yearn to start my ministry, Father. And I am ready to finally start it.

But Lord, I can’t do this on my own. I confess that I don’t have the skills, the education, or the training it takes to start my ministry, or even to grow it the way I envision it in my head, and in my heart. I’m going to need You every step of the way.

But first, Abba Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that You would forgive me.

I want a clean slate with You regarding my ministry (and everything else). So I choose to repent right now for any ways that I have disobeyed You regarding my ministry in the past.

Holy Heavenly Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that You would please forgive me for any ways I have been lazy, undedicated, off track, or have gotten my priorities mixed up in the past. I repent for all those things.

Father, please cover me with the blood of Jesus. Wash me clean with the precious blood of Your Son, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit anew and afresh, especially where all those things were.

Lord, I need Your help to align everything in my life rightly.

From now on, in Jesus’ name, I ask that You would please help my priorities, my use of time, my service to people, and most of all my obedience to You be completely aligned with Your highest, best, and most perfect will for my life. Keep me on a short leash, Father, and convict me if I attempt to stray.

In the name of Jesus, I also ask that You would send an angel with a flaming sword to turn me back and block the path if I even attempt to go down any road (or to stay on any road!) that is not Your will for me.

Lord, I am completely dependent on You and Your help.

And Father, it’s not just that I need You to “help” me as I try to do anything in my flesh. I confess and acknowledge that, without Jesus, I can do nothing!

Yes: I understand, admit, and realize that I am crucified with Christ, therefore I no longer live; it is Jesus Christ who lives in me–and the life that I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who gave Himself for me! There is nothing in me at all that is even alive except for You!

So Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask You to literally flow through my brain, my arms, my legs, my hands, and every other part of my body, soul, and spirit to build my ministry. Work through me as I cooperate with You to begin this ministry to which You have called me.

Abba Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask You to help me manage my time and thought life so I CAN start my ministry:

• Help me to keep my one-on-one time with You FIRST, which is different from ministry time or even ministry-prep time. Give me wisdom to know the difference.
• Help me to keep my spouse and children prioritized where they belong ABOVE my ministry. Don’t ever let me be married to ministry or parenting a ministry, instead of giving my spouse and children the time and attention they are due.
• Please flood me with creative ideas and witty inventions You want me to carry out in my ministry.
• Help me to know the timing of each creative idea and witty invention. Help me to know what to work on now and what is simply Your vision for a later time, as my ministry grows.
• Please fill me with the WISDOM, inspiration, motivation, dedication, and diligence that I need to work on starting and building my ministry every single day.
• Convict me hard if I slack off, or if I am lazy, not diligent, or not dedicated to answering Your call every single day.
• I ask that You would literally flow through my mind, body, soul, and spirit to accomplish the work of building my ministry.
• I pray that You would give me a great passion for this ministry You have called me to build.
• Help me to always seek FIRST Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, not ministry of any kind. And when I do, all these things–including my ministry–will be added unto me, according to Your Word in Matthew 6:33.
• By Your Spirit, please keep this ministry right where You want it to be in my mind, heart, soul, and spirit.
• Give me revelation and conviction that it is MY choice to answer You in this call or not–and that it is only ME who can choose to obey you every day and do the work it takes to start my ministry.

And, Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name I also ask:

• That You would help me learn the technical skills I need to carry out the work of this ministry to which You have called me.
• Please show me where to go to get training, and how to get the training I need for myself (through internet search, classes, free online videos, et cetera).
• Flow through me creatively to build any technical or artistic aspects of my ministry through me (logo, business card, brochures, website, et cetera).
• That You would provide for me and my ministry financially as I undertake this endeavor and stick with it.
• Help me to learn good business skills, so I can manage the financial stewardship of my ministry well.
• Teach me how to employ wisdom to monetize my ministry, so that the tools, resources, and services I provide to help people will pay for the costs of the ministry.
• Since Your Word says that a worker is worthy of their hire, please fund my ministry to such an extent that I am able to do this work full-time and still have all my family’s financial needs provided for.
• As I start this ministry and grow in it, be for me the Great Door-Opener and the Great Door-Closer.
• Close every door for me that You desire to close.
• Help me know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that You have closed a door when You have closed a door.
• Help me not to try to cling to that door, or to go back to that room, when You have closed a door and are escorting me out.
• In the name of Jesus, please OPEN every door that You desire me to walk through.
• When You have opened a door, please help me know that it’s You and know that the door is open.
• Give me total peace about walking through every door You have opened for me, and give me no peace about walking through any doors that are not Your highest, best, and most perfect will for my life.
• Grant me favor and opportunities as I grow and show myself favor.
• Please deliver me from any opportunities that would be premature for me, based on my relationship with You, my character, and where I am in ministry on any given day.

Abba Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask You for nations for the sake of Christ.

Please help me to use media and even my own shoe leather to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, making disciples of nations and teaching them to observe all things You have commanded me. Use me to lift up the mighty and matchless name of Jesus over all the world, and every individual in it.

Lord, I’m ready to start my ministry. I answer Your call right now. Please use me. Help me. Grow me, shape me, and mold me. Use me for Your glory, and to glorify Your own name.

Thank You, Holy Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen and amen.”
